Although AlcoDens is a Windows application, it will run under macOS 10.8 and higher using various helper programs. These will allow you to run AlcoDens just like any other Mac application. The CrossOver software described below is also available for Chromebook and Linux but we have not tested those. Please let us know if you have any tips for Chromebook or Linux users.
The recommended method for running AlcoDens on s Mac is to use the commercial CrossOver software. It is the easiest to use and the most reliable, but involves some extra cost (approx US$ 50.00). The alternatives are to use the free Wine compatibility layer software (which will only work for macOS versions up to Mojave (10.14)) or you can use virtualization software like Parallels or VirtualBox. These methods are not described here because users of those programs are generally software experts and don't need extra help (and we can't help with these anyway).
CrossOver is commercial software costing about US$ 50.00, but offers a level of reliability and ease of use that makes it worthwhile for commercial distillers. CrossOver v19 will work with macOS Catalina (v10.15) and down to macOS v10.11. CrossOver versions 17 and 18 will work with macOS from 10.11 to 10.14.
We are pleased that AlcoDens has now been registered as "recognized" software by CodeWeavers and included in their What Runs database.
